Part-time Chef

Matchaful is a plant-based matcha wellness cafe in NYC. We will be expanding our retail footprint in 2020 and are looking for a Cafe Chef to help us execute and improve our new food program.

We are looking for someone who has creative and operational experience, has experience working as a line cook. We are also looking to expand our product line with energy bars, vegan soft-serve, and other unique matcha-based products.

Requirements:

Must demonstrate a strong interest in health and wellness, and plant based cooking
Must have experience and interest working with vegan and alternative ingredients
Must be a NYC Food Protection Certificate holder

Your scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

Maintain the prep space, keeping it clean and orderly
Develop at least 2 new food offerings to be added to the existing menu, including a sushi item and wagashi (all ingredient costs will be reimbursed)
Develop 1 - 2 new drink recipes for the “seasonal menu” when needed
Prepare all fresh food items at least 3 days per week
Prepare all house-made concentrates to be used for the bar at least 3 days a week
Train designated staff members to prepare food when necessary
Work toward daily sales goals for food items
Conduct inventory checks daily for all ingredients used in food items as well as supplies
(packaging, etc.)
Organize designated storage space, fridge area, and counter for food item preparation
Maintain cleanliness comply with food sanitation standards at all times
Practice correct food handling as well as food storage procedures according to federal
state local company regulations
Monitor dates of all food items, to make sure nothing is used past its suggested date
Communicate clearly with other members of the Matchaful team, including Maris and Liza to effectively distribute prep and work load. (For example, one person makes a big batch of Chai on Monday and the next person makes a big batch of liquid gold on Tuesday)
