Position Summary
Assist in designing, executing, and improving recipes, performing quality checks on ingredients and finished products. Production all pastry item including but not limited to cakes, cake bases, fillings, décor and other processes related to the final presentation of product. Process customer orders. Assist management and supervisor as needed in leading the kitchen staff.

Occasionally assist Pastry Sous Chef with tracking monthly inventory, and calculating costs for kitchen programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in managing the kitchen staff and demonstrate strong leadership
• Ability to learn about and explain all products to customers
• Prepare all menu items following recipes and yield guides, according to department standards
• Assure correct maintenance and use of equipment; proper use of equipment and tools and maintain a safe work area
• Meet with Supervisor to review assignments, anticipate business levels, changes and other information pertinent to job performance
• Assure cleanliness and working condition of all tools, equipment and supplies
• Recommend improvement for recipes or seasonal items
• Monitor and record inventory while assisting in ordering supplies
• Adhere to all health and food safety regulations and procedures
• Adhere to current, and implement new, sanitation and safety regulations as requested by the company

Required Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of baking ingredients and how to use them in a creative way
• Knowledge and experience minimizing waste
• Demonstrates adequate pastry skills and operations as shown through a skills demonstration
• Able to plan and prepare for café, catering and special events
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to manage time and resources
• Strong planning skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate preferred
• Certification of culinary training or apprenticeship preferred

Physical Requirements
• Able to stand while working 8 to 10 hour shifts
• Able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
