Position: Lead Chef Instructor– Health-Supportive Culinary Arts Program
Reports to: CA Campus President
The Institute of Culinary Education CA Campus is seeking a lead chef instructor for its Health-Supportive Culinary Arts Program (HSCA). The HSCA Program offers practical classes and lectures on food, wellness and health through nutrition education, plant-based cooking and meals that heal. The Lead Chef Instructor will manage the HSCA curriculum and other chef instructors; focusing on the leadership of instruction and offerings related to the maximizing health benefits from ingredients and cooking techniques.
Job Responsibilities:
Overall planning, management and administration of the Health-Supportive Culinary Arts Program (HSCA) including advisement, evaluation, counseling, and maintenance of program accreditation
Curriculum development, assessment, evaluation in the areas of whole foods, nutrition, wellness and sustainability
Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program
Ability to teach the Health-Supportive Culinary Arts curriculum
Provide ongoing feedback on recipes and courses
Develop, create and test new recipes
Lead a team of chef instructors through the entire employment cycle
Adhere to and enforce school policies and procedures
Comply with ACCSC requirements, as communicated
Perform administrative duties on a timely basis
Participate in administrative meetings, as required
Work on projects as assigned
Participate in events to market the School and HSCA Program including but not limited to contributions to open houses, social media, interviews, articles, and cooking segment
Monitor faculty service and professional development including but not limited to coaching feedback, classroom observation and performance evaluation
Assisting in maintaining compliance with all federal, state and accrediting regulations
Qualifications:
Culinary degree/diploma and/or some form of formal culinary education
Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, food service systems management, clinical nutrition, or related area, highly preferred. Master’s degree highly preferred.
Minimum of 7 years culinary and/or human nutrition experience, preferably including managerial experience
Broad knowledge of food as medicine, including Ayurvedic, macrobiotics, gluten-free and dairy-free diets
Knowledge of Eastern and Western food theories and applications highly preferred
Previous teaching experience strongly preferred
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal; strong presentation and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with others
Highly organized, detail oriented and proficient at multi-tasking
True and demonstrated passion for multiple dimensions of the culinary/nutrition/dietetic universe
Flexible schedule; able to work weekends and/or evenings
Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required
Experience writing, editing or testing recipes
Existing contacts in the LA culinary and health/wellness community
