Private Chef

Manhattan, NY

A private couple with an infant on the UES is seeking an experienced live-out chef who lives in Manhattan or close to the city. Candidates must be available to start ASAP to train with the current chef, who will be leaving on June 23rd.

The schedule will either be part-time (12 noon-7pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) or full-time (12 noon-7pm Monday through Friday), with flexibility required to accommodate weekends in the event that there are guests, Jewish holidays, or if the principal is returning from travel. The candidate may be asked to travel to a summer location, though this is not a requirement.

Responsibilities will typically include cooking fresh, low-salt cuisine, shopping for groceries, preparing weekly staples (such as fresh juice, salads, dressings, and snacks), preparing a small lunch (such as soup or salad), as well as a dinner (consisting of a protein and vegetable side dish), prepping dinner for the next day for the principal to finish (for part-time position), maintaining kitchen supplies, and cleaning up after dinner to household standards. Meals are typically required for two adults, unless the principal is entertaining.

Candidates will ideally have knowledge/experience cooking and using whole foods. Knowledge of Mediterranean diet is a plus. The successful candidate will have verifiable previous experience working as a chef in a private household cooking healthy, delicious food according to the principal's guidelines, be fluent in English, and be willing to communicate daily via text with the principal and the personal assistant to discuss menus and requests. Candidates must be organized, reserved, punctual, impeccably clean and tidy, and capable of working invisibly. Discretion is essential.
