Seeking Experienced PT Barista for Wellness-oriented Cafe (Park Slope, Brooklyn)

Grounded is a cafe serving Partners Coffee and plant-forward bites, located within the Brooklyn Flow wellness space in Park Slope. We are vegetarian, but most items are vegan. We strive to provide high-quality beverages and nutritious (and delicious) food to our guests, while serving as a friendly community gathering space.

We are seeking one part-time barista and counterperson to round out our team. We are looking for a quick learner who is enthusiastic about coffee and nourishing food. The team is awesome! Everyone is very dedicated, hard working, supportive and trustworthy. We'd really love someone with similar qualities to join us.

Responsibilities include:

  • Learn and follow recipes and techniques from managers, co-workers, and directly from our coffee roaster. We all strive to be better together!

  • Prepare coffee, espresso drinks, tea, smoothies, acai bowls, and serve pastries.

  • Work the front counter and ring up orders using the Toast POS system. Provide excellent customer service and foster a sense of community among guests.

  • Understand our full menu, and be able to guide customers, especially around dietary restrictions and food allergies

  • Restock retail shelves

  • Clear tables, wash dishes, sweep as needed, break down and clean at the end of the night


Qualifications:

  • Some barista experience.

  • Familiarity with espresso drink preparation. Continuing education and barista brush-ups are offered to all new staff through Partners Coffee Roasters.

  • Experience with a manual espresso machine., we use the Victoria Arduino Eagle One

  • Volumetric Espresso Machine.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Self-motivated and dependable.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable standing for long periods of time, squatting, twisting, and moving frequently.

  • Able to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs.

  • Able to communicate clearly with co-workers and customers.

  • Must be able to read and speak English, and understand basic math.

  • Ability to speak additional languages is a plus!

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow tickets and on-screen orders.

  • Work in a neat and organized manner.

  • Available on weekends and early mornings.

  • New York State Food Protection Certificate is a huge plus. - let's switch this to required

Compensation:
$15 - $17 per hour plus tips
